This is a part of a movie made to promote the US Navy in 1915. The rest of the movie is lost.

Interesting film. I'm curious at 7 1/2, minutes during the physical drill, a dog is running around the deck. Wonder what a dog would be doing on a navy ship?
Health and safety obviously wasn't an issue in 1915 neither.

That was a Busby Berkley rehearsal Joe

Animals were kept on ships as mascots, either for the ship or perhaps a mess. The ships cat was a working arrangement - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship%27s_cat

What I find interesting are those submarines. The first submarine wasn't owned by the US Navy until April 1900. At the start of WWI Britain had the most submarines at 74 and the Germans only 20 of various classes.

Men who were submariners in those days were pretty daring just to get on board one of them.
