Bayonet Question

Gentlemen,

Does anyone out there know if the bayonet for the Pattern 17 Enfield will fit the P 14?

I have the rifle, I'm looking for a bayonet but I've never found one of the British marked bayonets, I have, however come across the 'American' (1917) ones - usually American makers but often with British pattern scabbards (Home Guard?).

Will these fit and therefore 'fill the gap' until the correct bayonet comes along?

Regards

Tom

short answer is yes , the bayo that fits the pattern 14 rifle is the same as the bayp that fits the model 1917 rifle , markings differ but they were made the same in the same plants - some made for the UK and so marked were later remarked for the US with canceled first marks

The correct bayonet for the P14 rifle is the Pattern 13 but this is interchangeable with and identical to the P17 that fits the American M1917 rifle except for its markings.

I looked for the correct bayonet for my P14 at a couple of Bisley arms fairs without luck so ended up buying a nice P17 for about £45.

Quite by chance some weeks later I was talking to a mate who was shooting his Winchester .30-06 M17 and found that he had a P13 bayonet "but really wanted a P17". We swapped the following week.

The close up shows the model number (1913) with the manufacture date 6 1916 and the Remington maker's stamp. The reverse bears a government crown, a couple of inspection marks and the bending test mark.

The scabbard is identical to the one with my P1907 (SMLE) bayonet.
