Brazilian Mauser

I bought this rifle last month. It is a Model 1908 Brazilian Mauser made sometime between 1908 to 1914, probably nearer 1914. It is in nice condition for a rifle over 100 years old and all numbers match. It has a bright bore and shoots well. I shot it at 200 yards yesterday with Geco and Prvi 7x57 factory ammunition. The minimum sight setting is 300 yards, so it shot a little high at 200 yards. The Geco was slightly high and the Prvi a bit higher. I know these seem commonly available in the USA but I have only seen two for sale in the UK and this is one of them. It was made by Mauser Obendorf under contract from DWM. A few pics.
Regards
Peter.

Very nice rifle. Looks to be in better shape than my Argentine Mauser Model 1891
Cavalry Carbine in 7.65x54.

That crest on the ring sure sets it off as something special.

I've never seen one before but it's nice to see someone is still buying Peter. It looks in very good fettle too.

Back then were the sights in yards or meters?
Either way, isn't 2000 a little optimistic? .....
Your rifle looks in great shape.

The sight will be in metres. The longer ranges will be for volley fire into an area rather than at an individual target. They all seemed to sight rifles to long ranges like that back then.

Peter.
