Going to start a dedicated thread for this as it will probably develop
I got a call today from my gunshop pal to say he had the FAL rifles in stock that I had asked about.
I was off in the car straight after lunch with hopes high - but what a let down when I got there.
These were not L1A1's but German FAL's - not what I was looking for at all.............
It appears that L1A1's are like Rocking Horse Shit to find BUT he said IF I found one before my B licence is issued he would hold it for me for free.
The search continues......................

I don't know anything about FAL's, as Duncan knows, but I was reading something just now, after seeing Duncan's post. Seems like the Germans didn't get the license from Fabrique Nationale to make them. It also goes on to say lots of what passes for FAL's are sub quality and will have ammo problems. It also says the genuine FAL rifles have superior steel and manufacturer quality. Seems like you could buy one that isn't up to your expectations unless you are very knowledgeable and make particular investigations about any rifle you buy. I wonder if the German source rifles are actual totally FN made rifles?

So, I was looking on NaturaBuy to see what was available and I found this , offered by a seller that I have bought from before.
I have emailed them to see if they will do a deal with me.
Here is the FAL they are offering.............

I hadn't heard the term "German FAL" before, but I do know it is identical to my HK91.
Although I have no idea who made what first. I do know the HK91 is a really fun gun.
The side of the FAL you want says 7.62, which is the actual military round, my HK says
.308, although actually the same as I have put a lot of 7.62x51 surplus through my HK.
If you get that one, I bet it will be as much fun as mine.....

My original one in the army was a plastic stock and wooden forend and it was great fun to shoot - possibly not as much fun to lug around the training area though!
Anyway. IF I can't get my hands on an L1A1 I will look for an M1 Garand but that is a second choice..........

And here I thought that high power semi-auto rifles with 20 round clips were not that
available in Europe......
Buy lots of magazines so you don't have to reload mags at the range.

Ha Ha!
Actually this is reminiscent of a certain Schmidt-Rubin purchase a while ago
I currently have a sling.........
And my original cleaning kit from my issued weapon in the 80's
Which includes oil bottle, pull through ( had to put a new piece of cord on it because the old one broke ) tool, 4 x 2 ( of which i have two huge rolls ) , brush and ( not issue! ) a foresight blacking kit which is a 7.62 case containing some oil soaked 4 x 2 and a 9 mm snuffing cap. The 17 was my rack number and the Maroon was the platoon colour.
So - I have a start
