Here is a very rare World War One trench accessory for LE FUSIL D'INFANTERIE MODÈLE 1886 MODIFIÉ 1893 DIT "LEBEL" ... a mud cover called a couvre cullase. It is made of thin sheet metal and is attached to the bolt by means of the bolt head retaining screw.

These were very unfavorable items and were usually discarded by the troops.

This particular couvre cullase was un-issued.

Can the bolt be manipulated with the cover attached Patrick? It doesnt look as if it could.

An intersting piece of kit BTW.

Neat, who would have manufactured items like that? Is it stamped or marked in any way?

The cover is not marked in anyway as to who manufactured the item.
