Display wall boxes

I can't find where I ever posted about this before, although I must have. In any case, this was a project that was ongoing for a lot of years in the past each time I got a new BP reproduction pistol. Vern, in another post asked about the subject because of a photo I used on another subject. The idea was that this was a way to display my BP pistols and still keep the dust off of them. It was simple enough to do and how to do it was pretty obvious. It was also pretty cheap to make each one...less than $15 each I'd think if made today.
Get a standard 11x15 wood document frame. Usually around $5. The cheapest you can find is good. Nothing fancy at all. Just be sure it's wood...or at least that you can put small screws into it. Then go by the Home Depot or whatever big box hardware and lumber store and get a 8 foot $2 fir strip of 1x2. Then you will need some small decorative hinges and a cheap decorative lock... also usually found in the big box stores. You will also need a backing for the box of something thin and cheap... masonite works. (The cardboard backing that comes with the picture frame isn't going to work.) For decoration purposes I glued down some $1 felt squares found at hobby or fabric stores on the inside surface of the masonite. Just cut and make fir strip into a rectangle the size of the picture frame and fasten together. Spray paint the wood parts. Tack the fitted masonite to one side of the opening with the felt attached facing the inside. Screw on the hinges to the new box frame and attach to the wood picture frame. Add a clasp and the lock. Inside the box make some additions for display purposes as you see the need for them. Pegs work for trigger guards for instance. Then you need some way to attach to the wall. I used picture hanging screws with expanding plastic fasteners.
