My parents were enablers :D

I was spoiled rotten. Tons of toys.

My mother was a pretty good seamstress, so she made me cowboy outfits, indian outfits, military uniforms, pirate clothes, and even made me a set of camouflage BDU's around 1976, long before such items of clothing became available for kids :D

I had an 8' x 2' x 2' toychest packed to the lid with toy guns, swords, and knives of all descriptions. Even then, my preference was for "realistic" looking toys. I loved my Marx plastic M1 Garand and my wooden bolt action Springfield with the "golden wooden bullet" revealed when the bolt was pulled back.

On a depressing note...all those toys are long gone now...they'd be worth a small fortune today. Plus, you can't get good toy guns anymore. Everything has to have an orange muzzle plug, or be some day-glo color. :(

Guess that's why I'm stuck with buying the real thing :D

Er Joe, I was on the same exercise!

As I recall there were also Para TA involved as the enemy (depends which side you were on) I was doing the part of an OP officer as our troop commander was ill and I had to take command of a 432 as a young gunner which did not go down well with the lance jack flaggy we had.

Being the OP officers ack I was given the job and loved it, my memory is a bit dim but I do recall it pi55ed down during the exercise and we ended up near a gasthues and managed to dry out over a few beers and the gasthues (spelling?) also contained some of the enemy TA paras.

It's a small world!

You were lucky to get dried out and have a few beers Mick, if i wasnt in a muddy hole, we were creeping round the countryside all night

I remember the paras as after the excercise we were swapping souvenirs with them. I scored a set of German para wings for my LI cap badge.

Still got the para wings!

Small world indeed.
