Just a small retirement gift from the wife and kids. It is a Springfield Armory M1A, a semi-auto clone of the M14. Almost exactly like the one I was issued in the Army. This is the National Match version, their high end, with a match grade barrel, front and rear sights. It came with a 10-round clip, but I found a 20-rounder at Cabela's.

This baby is a joy to shoot. This is my first 100 yard target, which I shot from the prone position under the rules for the Milsurp Mania Match. My previous target was a 50-yard 10 rounder which I used to zero the sights.

Scored 97-2x.

Now if I can ever get all of these boxes from the move unloaded or stored away, I plan to get out and put a lot more rounds down range with the sweetie.

Really nice, congrats!

Went through basic training at Ft. Lewis, WA in summer of 1967. We were one of the last groups to take basic with the M-14, which was a much better shooter than I was. ;) I remember thinking on those long marches that I sure wish I had one of those new plastic lightweight M-16s.

And at the end I had to quilify, in one day, with an M16 that I had never experienced before. But... being able to see pretty good then, it wasn't a problem.
