That the blokes in the lower picture have conned their gullible sergeant into going first in a game of Russian roulette with an SMLE?

I remember on a Newsreel of the 50s seeing a quintet playing on Lee-Enfields. I imagine that they were No !s as the lighter barrels would likely be more resonant.

Anyone else remember?

I have seen this done

The NZ Army band did it as part of the act except it was only the barrel...easier to handle

From memory it sounded very much like a bugle
