Marine Map from Iwo Jima

Military maps in use by Marines in WWII were set up different than Army maps in the Vietnam War 25 or so years later. There is one for sale I noticed in my mail this morning. Things different include....1000 yard squares divided into 200 yard sub boxes that aren't just imagined as a number out of a 1000 but have actual letter designations. Each 1000 yard square has a number to itself and not just a case of two intersection numbered grid lines read left and up like later day, only later day maps are in meters, which is a really big difference. Wonder if ship support artillery fire was computed in yards rather than meters? Main topographic features are drawn in and noted like in later days. There are elevation lines like later maps. However, enemy heavy gun emplacements were noted and the direction of how the guns are laid is noted.
