I was in the grocery store today to pick up a few things. I walked by the meat department and looked at the beef. I saw a few packages of what was labeled as File Mignon and each package had three file chunks of meat under the clear wrapper and the packages weighted in at something over a pound each. What struck me was the price was $8.90, or about , a pound and then there was this black label stuck on the packages proclaiming... TEYS Black. I had no idea what that label meant but File Mignon at $8.90 a pound was less than half of what I was expecting. So I bought a couple packages and divided them up into three packages and put two in the freezer and left the other in the refrigerator to cook on the grill.

As a bachelor now days one person meals cooked on the BBQ grill often is a regular thing while I suck down a beer or two and smoke on a cigar. Well.. ate the steak and it seemed fine enough to me but I wondered what TEYS Black meant and wondered if it was something to be concerned about.... even though the store was selling the meat as food for human consumption.

So I went online. TEYS Black is beef that comes from Australia. Hard to believe it made it to my local grocery. But I read that Australian beef makes it regularly to America and is sold by big discount chains like Costco. It's from grain feed cattle and maybe better quality than most of the US stuff...so I read. Maybe the grocery was trying it out on some introductory offer from the importer. Who knows. Tasted just fine to me ....and I don't feel sick.
