I’m not much of a planeman, but I do love to take a look at these planes every time I walk from my working area to the messhall.

Every plane you see flew in the Royal Dutch Airforce.

The F-16 still does.

Maybe some of the other members have some more info on them.

Hi Martin, i am not too clued up on the jets, my attention was drawn to the Spitfire, what is the last code number on the tail? Is it MK 959, and is it located in Eindhoven?

The aircraft in your photo is the low altitude LF Mk IX clipped wing version, normally fitted with a Merlin 66 engine. It could carry one 500 pound bomb under the fuselage, and two 250 bombs under the wings. Amament varied, but could be, two 20mm cannon and two .50 Browning MG`s.

Thanks for the info on the Spitfire Joe.

Like I said, I'm not much of a plane man, but I love to take a look at them and always admired those who had the courage to fly these machines.

To answer your question.

Yes...the codenumber on the tail is MK 959 and this plane is located in Eindhoven.

Are you by any chance familiar with it ?????

Met vriendelijke groet,

Martin

I am a big fan of the Spitfire Martin, one of my books has a comprehensive list of most Mk`s and serial numbers of the spitfire and their history.

MK 959 was issued to 39 Maintenance Unit on 15-4-44,

302 Squadron 3-5-44,

329 Sq. 15-6-44,

165 Sq. 30-8-44,

Scottish Aviation Ltd. 6-2-45 (upgrade or repair?)

29 MU 13-4-45,

Royal Netherland Air Force 25-9-46,

Struck Off Charge 4-6-54.

Nice to see it, thanks for the photo :D
