If A 6 Turned Out To Be 9...I don't mind...

Here are a couple shots of a rifle from Texas with a Zurich "ZH" tang mark and a....9...6...9...6...9...
Well, we don't know which it is, since it's obligingly lying on it's side.

So is the missing "9" Carlos was looking for? Or did Thurgau and Zurich use the same repair shop with the same number "6"? They are neighbors, after all.
I was really hoping this would be conclusive...

Hmmm...very interesting, thanks for posting:D; I suppose there is the possibility that this could be a find. It would be nice if they underlined the 6's and 9's, as in UNO;)

Is that dot to the left of 6/9 circle part of the stamp or just a ding? If part of the stamp do other stamps carry the same mark? If so might be a way to tell what is up or down.
Also other number stamps for canton, which way is up or down when stamped on stock?

I few a few marked K-31's, but the majority of mine are blank, so it's hard to speak from personal experience. However, on all of my stamped examples, the number is on the opposite (muzzle end) of the sling attachment, in comparison to yours. They all face up, towards the heel of the buttstock. Very interesting indeed;)

Another 6/ZH

I happened into a "6" of my own a couple weeks ago. It's set up just like the one from Texas, with the "6" on the muzzle side of the sling cut and being upright when the rifle is held muzzle-up.
As you can see, it has the same "dot" as the Texas rifle, in the same place. It seems reasonable to call this dot the equivalent of the underlining that distinguishes 6 from 9.

Also marked "ZH" on the tang. The stock is numbered to the rifle, so ZH and 6 go together, for sure.

Already got to Carlos with this one, but maybe a couple of people haven't seen it yet...

Thanks for the follow-up, krinko<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START

http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">; Since there are lots of rifles and relatively few people researching them, I don't think we can rule anything out just yet. There are always more things to be found, and that's part of what makes all of this enjoyable:D;
