Interesting .22 auto,Joe.I don't blv I have seen one before.
Are those a couple of the old Highway Patrol metal piercing rounds with the Smith?I've still got a box of those around somewhere and no .38/.357 to use them in!
Sorry you had to turn these pieces in.

Somebody must have asked this before...but

When the British government decided to outlaw handguns and you had to turn them in....did the government pay you for them? Did they pay you full value?

The .22 is a Russian Vostock pistol, they came cased with lots of "Bits" and add-ons, the used to sell them by the lb.
They were very cheap to buy but were very accurate, the ergonomics was 1950s so you had to work a little bit harder with them for consistently high scores but they were exceptional value for money and a club classic.
Me, I used an old Webley single shot.
Yes we were compensated financially for our loss, it was a bit of a lottery as to how you did, the government produced a list, those exact models on it were over valued in the main, most of mine were on the list so I got better than pre ban market value for them, others that had to have them valued or banded didn't do so well.
In the end it cost the government (i.e. the taxpayer) huge amounts of money, the true figure has never been divulged to parliament. The best source I have said the figure £5 billion was around the mark by the time administration, legal challenges and police time was costed in.
There will never be a compensation type ban again.

John, i traded those pistols in before the ban, i was always buying and selling hanguns at that time. I lost count of how many i owned over the years

I believe the .38 rounds you mention were AP, cant really remember after all this time.
I had two handguns at the time of the ban, a S&W Mod. 59, which i intended keeping for life, i dont know why but i loved that pistol!
The other was a .38 special S&W revolver, but i cant for the life of me remember which model
I did ok out of the compensation scheme, i got a fair bit more than i paid for my guns. we also got money for cases bullets and other handloading paraphenalia related to handgun use.
There are more handguns on the street now (illegally) than there ever were before the ban.It was a complete waste of time and your typical politicians kneejerk reaction. It still boils my piss thinking about it now
Joe
I lost five

I lost my Webley .22 and .38 6 inch target revolvers, a Webley .32 3 inch pocket revolver, a .32 Webley auto and a .38 Enfield service revolver. I got to keep my .455 Mk VI. I still have the smouldering anger over having these taken away from me and destroyed that will never leave me.
Regards
Peter.
