N^Z marked Longbranch---New Photos

I am looking at a nice '43 Longbranch with a purported New Zealand Property Mark----a nearly new rifle, just like all the others I've seen, marked in a way that is completely UNLIKE all the others I've seen.

This one is marked on the receiver ring, instead of the left buttsocket and the inventory number is not repeated on the bolt handle.

The mark was first scratched into the finish and then stamped over top of the scratching. The "N" and the "Z" are the same slightly broken stamp---an "N" turned sideways to make the "Z".

Anyone know if this has been seen before?

The rifle is almost perfect, except for that scratching---and would be worth more to most folks here in the States without the mark, so I doubt a counterfeit-for-profit.

I am going to buy it anyway, I'm doomed, it's inevitable...but if any light can be shed on this type of mark, I'd appreciate it.

It is not unusual for the NZ mark to be on the reciever ring or Nocks

Is there an arrow between the letters but that is not always been used.

Just buy it and send it home to me

krinko, I've seen a Savage with the NZ stamped as the one soon to be yours. Seller thought the ownership stamp counted for extra moola, I passed, but may've cut my nose off to spite my face.

Ray, I've heard of other Savages in NZ service, but not LBs. Were they fairly common?

I've got an NZ marked Longbranch, but mine is EP'ed "NZ" on the receiver ring.

Crappy picture, but...

Pit Bull, Thanks for the info...hardly a trip to the forums doesn't teach me something!

Longbranch No 4s are more common in NZ, apparently a big shipment was recieved in 1943/44

This was discussed on one of the LE Forums earlier this year

This backed up by the No.4s that are availble here now, not many Savages and lots of LBs

That said I only have one LB, a Fulton Regulated with no NZ markings, I see one has come up on the local equivilent of Ebay, still in the grease, right markings buy for $290 US

Tempted but I claim I am over LEs.... still I am tempted

The owner was acting like he actually wanted to KEEP this---the NERVE of some people!

Anyway, I am warming up the Cybershot and will be putting up better photos later.

Here are the shots I had patience for today.

The rifle is virtually new---no wear, anywhere.

Are these photos visible to people other than myself?.

I can't see them after they have been up for more than 5 minutes.

Photos loaded with the Img button above remain visible----bah!

A seriously good looking rifle Krinko, if that was mine it would definitely be going into the "keeper" gunsafe. Congrats on a very nice purchase :D

Let us know how she shoots!

Well, Joe, the Mk2 sight is on to stay, so I assume the rifle will shoot to combat specifications fairly well...but that's likely to be all I will attempt.

The pin that retains the rear sight axis is peened in place, or I would consider putting on one of the LB Mk1s I have to hand.

Don't want to risk scarring this particular rifle.
