The tag inside says "Banbolier GP", I assume the GP stands for general purpose. It's made to carry 5 of something. At first I thought of mortar rounds but the ID of the plastic divider is only 2". Rifle grenades maybe?
It's brand new and dated 1997. I'm planning on using it as a troop sized aid kit.

Ammunition carrier for the infantry 2 inch mortar?
(Do the Infantry still have the equivalent of the old 2 inch mortar?).

Yes its the 51mm mortar but that may take a backseat as the UGL is being issued on a 2 per section basis. The difference being the 2" mortar is equalled in range by the UGL (underslung grenade launcher) but apparently the 51mm mortar has nearly double the range so it will depend on role!

Thanks for the replys, I was thinking 2" was small for a mortar but when you think about it the US 60mm mortar wasn't much bigger.

Could be the CLAW a grenade designed to be fitted onto trhe muzzle brake that was around in GW1but since has seemed to have gone!
I occaissionaly get ancilliary bags from a friend who warehouses old stock and former trial stuff for a defence contractor. The pallets are occaissionally written off so I get them!

I use those sort of things for holding flasks and dog training kit or dressing out kit when deer stalking!
