Atomic Annie

I took a picture of this 280 mm cannon at Ft. Sill in 1969. There is a site that shows what an atomic artillary round from this weapon looks like.

That has got to be the ultimate long range sniper! When were those artillery pieces taken out of service Robert?

From what I read, Atomic Annie spent some time in Germany in the late 50's and was eventually taken out of service in 1963.

I think I heard it was early 1960's. Because of the two systems issued to the field, the Soviets knew at all times where the "Annies" were. They were marked for a first strike. Once in a while the History Channel runs a story about them.
