Milsurp After Hours

Hi everyone, I've been browsing the board for a while now, so I thought I'd say Hello to everyone, and make a request.

I live with my wife in South Wales and we both shoot. I'm a bit of an enfield addict, we have a well used No4 Mk1*, a SMLE mkIII* with one of the new S. African barrels in it , an Enforcer, and a Parker Hale T4. There are some pics and videos of them on my website in my sig. Please have a look and sign the guestbook!!

She's American, so we go to the US once a year or so to the family farm, where I get to shoot my .45acp all day long out the back garden and stick a couple of fingers up at his Tonyness Mr Blair and the stupid gun ban of 97 that took away my pistols

Now for the request, does anybody have a picture of the McQueens target as used at Bisley? I took my wife with me last year and she enjoyed shooting the McQueen, but we could do with some practice for this year

Welcome to the Forum. Liked your site, especially the R&S, they're great revolvers. First one that I ever fired was original and brand new and came in the mail to Australia from Bannermans That was 50 years ago. Try that these days

welcome to the boards and thanks for the post, interested to see that you fence.

I got a few caps when at university and captained of the university team in my final year, 30 years ago now. Fenced foil, epee and sabre but epee was my weapon of choice.

In fact we used to hold one hit epee competitions at dawn using a gravel path as a piste, now that was atmospheric and exciting.

We were fencing steam with no electrics. Three pronged points wrapped on with thread to catch the hit.

At least we didn't go in for the duelling scars like the Schlaeger fechter

Hi again, everyone thanks for the welcome.

Thanks guys for the mails with the targets, we'll need the practice as we're entering the Service Rifle Comp at Bisley next month, and the Spring into action gallery weekend. I'll be busy loading up some ammo this week. On the weekend we'll be up at Sennybridge ranges on the X range 850meter field fire range, so that'll be fun, picnicing with the crackle of small arms fire :-)

Another question, my No4. is pretty much shot out I think, to the point of anything resembling full power ammo tumbles it's way down the range, I'm loading with 174gn boat tails and 32.5gn of 2460 at the moment which keps the tumbling down, but every now and then one decides to wander.

Does anyone know of somewhere I can get a new barrel for it? Fultons last year told me that barrels for No4.s are like hens teeth. Is there anyone making new ones like Border barrels or someone? I'd really like to rebarrel this one as the wood and receiver are mint, just the barrel is bad, but my wife ticket has a spare 303 slot in case I find a nice blondie at Bisley this year :-)

A tumbling enfield thats not good.

Iv got a couple of questions has it always tumbled or has it just developed the problem.

Does it do it with factory ammo or just reloads.

Does the same load tumble in your wifes 303.

What size are the bullets you are using have you checked them with a micrometer.

Have you slugged the bore to see what size it is.

If the bore is oversize lead bullets may cure the problem.

Have you tried other bullets and other powders.

Sellier and belliot 180g grain bullets in front of 41g of vit n140 works well in all my 303 rifles.

Try A J Parkers in Birmingham for all things Enfield. I had my Savage No. 4 barrel replaced by them and of course since they're not too far from the proof house they had it re-proofed as well. The No.4 shoots like a dream with its new yes new Maltby barrel. Also bought a 1943 manufactured No.1 Mk3* from them. Excellent bargain. Plus they can supply virtually any part, accessory or tool.
