I finally finished refurbishing my M-38 Turkish Mauser. It took massive amounts of degreaser and sand paper. My final sanding was done with 400 grit and some 0000 steel wool. The finish is compliments of Outers #455 Stock Finishing Kit. It is the best I've found so far. Bear in mind I am new to the milsurp game but I already love it.

Thats a nice looking stock. It's a bit shiny for my taste, but you rarely see a Turk stock look that good.

Was that one of those rough, pretty much unfinished stocks that everyone refered to as 2x4 stocks?

I do believe that is what I had. I am going today to pick up another stock so I can have a stock for showing and one for mounting my scope mount. I have to carve out some of the stock to mount the scope rail and I want to keep one stock as original as I can get.

amerkinsquid,

Looks great, nice job. I like to just clean my stocks on my M38's to original, but if they are lighter color, and sometimes "blotchy" I will apply a little stain to even them out.

Tell us a little more about your rifle. What year? Is it a K.Kale, ' 03, ATF, etc?

I really like the Turks, and am starting to "get into them" a bit. I'm finding that they are well made, good variety, and fit into my budget a little more than some other milsurps. Besides, most of them are reportedly very good shooters,(mine are).

I have three right now, '42, '43, '44 K. Kales, but I'm not stopping there.

I'm only about three hours from where you live, so if you decide that you don't want to keep it leave it on your front step and I'll be right over to pick it up. :D
