Confused on Nagant ammo.

I've heard people say various things about these pistols and what to shoot out of them. I've heard:

1. Only use Nagant ammo

2. Use .32 longs

3. Use .32 magnums

4. The cylinder needs to be changed to use #2&3

5. They were previously changed at the arsenal to shoot .32

I'm confused. I'll probably be getting one of these in the next few months and I want to be able to fire it safely and if possible, affordably. Any help appreciated.

My Nagant likes 32 S&W longs but does not like 32 H&Rmags in the original cylinder. I all so have a 32 auto cylinder. It shoots the 32 auto ok. These days i have loading my own using Starline 32-20 brass and Lee Nagant dies. I load 90gr HBWC.I use 3gr Unique when i set the bullet flush with the case.I use 3.5 gr when i set the bullet 1.5 OAL. Then i use a Lee M1 Carbine Factory Crimp Die. Sometimes i seat the bullets backwards to make homemade HPs. Their sure is a lot ammo choices for the little handgun. Mike

.32 S&W longs will work. Not good..but they work. I wouldn't shoot anything "magnum" in these pistols designed before the 20th Century.

Hi All,

The guys over on the Cast boolet board(that is the way they spell it!)

Say you can use all the ammo listed. They find that in some guns - some cases split. They use clear tape to make the bullet fit the

cylinders better. Most are now reloading with Starline cases.

The 32 H&R mags are a blast to shoot it's like a 38 wadcutter then fireing a 357 mag.WOW it gets your attention.

No one has reported any blow ups with 32 H&R mags in a Nagant.

Intra Ordance mentions that it is safe to shoot in there flyers.

I loaded some 32 mag loads in Starline case. They shot well and just fell out of the cylinder.

Be well,
