Milsurp After Hours

Our club had a trip to Kynamco Ltd yesterday for a tour of the Kynoch ammunition manufacturing facilities, (well worth a visit if you can get your club secretary to organise a trip.).

The company specilises in big game rifle ammunition and after our tour of the manufacturing process we were invited to try some of the Big Game Rifle/ammunition combinations on the underground 100m range.

Adam and myself partook of the 500-450 nitro express as a warm up to the 600 nitro express.

I am hoping Adams photos turned out better than mine and hopefully he will give the details of the rifles we shot as i didnt write them down.

We had a fantastic day out with a superb buffet lunch mid way between the tour and the shooting, hopefully Adam will add some more pics to this post?

.600 Nitro Express!

Not once, but twice!



I'm in love and she's an expensive lady £15 a pop, now where can I get £20,000 for a decent rifle

I have a photo post to come on the trip, a brilliant and educative day out.

I'm going back in May, the day before the Phoenix. Might be able to try out the .700 Nitro Express then, I'm a recoil junkie

Are Kynoch still loading any of the calibres we Enfielders might be interested in? E.g. MkVI or round-nose .303, .450/577?

They do a .303" MkVI cartridge (soft point Woodleigh Bullet) at around £2 each, Kynoch headstamp .303" cases are £1 each.

They do a .303" MkVII in S&B cases ex RG MKVII bullet at around £30 a hundred under the Kynamco label, the same stuff as you get at LERA shoots.

They do .577" Snider, cases only, and .577"/.450" Martini, cases only, at just under £3 each.

They do .310" Cadet, cases only, at 48p each and .300" Rook, cases only, at around the same price.

Not cheap but top quality drawn brass, I have to confess to splashing out and stocking up on all of the above as I shoot all these calibres.

sounds like an interesting assortment. I'd still like to try the MkVI, although I'm guessing I'd probably not notice much bar a faster drop, if I remember the ballistic table for it correctly. and you must be a glutton for punishment, because that looked more like a doorstop than a cartridge...

If the difference between Joe and myselfs reaction to the experience is anything to go by then the answer is yes Eoin.

The guy at the range actually said that it was the other way about, that was maybe just to encourage those of a lesser sature to have a go. :LOL:

Personally I loved the experience and even if it had hurt I would still have done it just to feel and see and sense what it was like.

Even after handling all that power I'm still not sure I'd like to face a charging Cape Buffalo with one, mind you if I had to face one I'd sooner do it with a .600 NE than without.

Its not everyday I get the opportunity to handle such wonderful rifles let alone shoot them.

Life is too short to deny yourself the opportunity as it may never come around again, I waited 50 years for that one.

Eoin, i didnt need catching, but it is certainly the most savage round i ever fired Once my shoulder recovers from the "whiplash" i would like to have a go at the .700 nitro express. Opportunities like this don`t come along often and you have to grab them with both hands when they do! Bugger the expense
