How's this?

I need a Shooters'Licence to buy percussion caps for muzzle-loaders, but I don't need one to buy percussion caps for toy guns, even though the toy ones work just fine on M/Ls.

Eoin, do you have to have a "shooters license" on your person when shooting at a range or somewhere? Is it kind of like a fishing license? That's something many of us Americans never heard of before.

Yep,

The Shooters Licence must be carried at all times whilst in possession of a firearm or ammunition and must be shown at the range prior to shooting etc.

If you've forgotten it then you don't shoot.

Tough ('an stupid).

We always carry our firearm certificate when carrying firearms here in the UK too.

so do you buy the one's for the toy guns and are they paper rolls or plastic and if you get caught do you get fined for using the wrong item?

Plastic for preference but the paper rolls will do in a pinch....pinch two off and a bit of sticky tape to hold them on the nipple, works well on military nipples.

Don't think that 'the powers' are aware that they exist so I presume that there is no penalty for using them...not yet anyway :!: :!:

The paper rolls are really Maynard's Patent Pellet Primers.

These caps are highly corrosive so only used when out of proper caps.

I have one gun that was designed to use the paper caps. It is a simple tube gun and has a touch hole underneath the barrel and originally had a wooden hammer and trigger with elastic band spring, but Customs took the woodwork when it was imported from Rhodesia, or so I believe.
