This is one of my favorite rifles (Adam please note).

I think it owes a lot to the Lee-Enfield...rere locking lugs, two piece stock, fast bolt...

and note that bolt handle

Only the French could fail so miserably with lack of from following excellent function.

I have never said that this rifle was not operationally excellent and even a piece of highly effective design. It has to be, as you rightly point out Eoin, using key features from the worlds best bolt action battle rifle the Lee Enfield.

However no one can ever tell me why it has to be so offensively UGLY.

It really takes away from its operational effectiveness having to shoot it with brown paper bag over ones head.

Adam,

It is ugly, in fact even fugly; however you must admit that mine has an elegant bolt handle, or at least it did till I had to bend it a bit forward to stop it bashing my hand. :)

That's what these are---got another Vichy made example without the typical serial number, but it's not been photographed.

OK, I'll go ahead and ask:

What is the story behind the square shank bolt handle and do the French know what you have done to their rifle?
