Is the stock matching as well? When did they stop using the ID disk and switch to the take down disk? I'm new to Gew98's but I though that they were all building them with takedown disks by 1917.
That's an absolutely BEAUTIFUL Gew98 BTW! I just picked up my first and it's no where near as clean or un-dinged! I'm at least 4 shades of green with envy.

Hi Oldbrass welcome to the show, if you have some pics of your G98 how about a post on it? I would be interested in seeing it.
Mine is in good condition, unfortunately the stock is from an earlier rifle, as after November 1915 the unit markings were applied to the top surface of the butt plate.
My rifle is a "Stern Gewehre" as indicated by the star on the receiver, these rifles were assembled in government factories from parts manufactured by small metalsmithing companies. The drawback of this type of manufacture / assembly being poor components interchangeability.
I still consider it a nice addition to my collection though

Duncan, this rifle belonged to a good friend and fellow club member who unfortunately passed away recently and i will continue shooting it in his memory.
BTW it is a very good shooter when i do my part!
