This last Sunday LERA hosted their autumn lecture and we were very pleased to have Peter Laidler giving us a talk about some of the aspects that surrounded the trials for the L42 sniper rifle.

However having a conversation later with some mates that also attended the lecture the talk got round to L39A1 production numbers; which have often been quoted as around 1500, the highest we an find in our own admittedly tight circle is A1280.

Can anybody beat this with a higher number?

Bloody Hell Mick have you retired?

How many projects you got running just now?

Mines numbered A960, one of the highest I've remembered seeing.

I knew I knew you from a past life, you were that blacked up Punka Wallah in "It Ain't Half Hot Mum"

There would be PC Hell on, and I don't mean Microsoft, if they had that on nowadays.

A960 is indeed pretty high; I may have made a mistake with the number of 1280 and I think I should have posted 1220 or there about as the highest seen within LERA membership.

My own is A850 but so far it would seem that 1220 may be the highest number so far recorded.

One of Fultons staff who is a LERA member has not seen one above the 1300 range which might shatter the common held theory that RSAF Enfield made 1500 of them; or perhaps they did but marked many of them as No 4 conversions?

The research continues........
