No.4 reliablity taken for granted

Hi All, After getting my first 2.5 MOA from my 'pet' service No.4 I thought I was really ready for my favorite shoot in Austin. So cocky was I that I didn't bring my usual 'backup' rifle, but a couple of No.4s for display.

During the warming shots my hairpin spring, of all things, broke. No more spring to it at all and not engaging the c/p. (The second stage seemed a tad light the last couple of shots, but I thought it was just me.)

I grabbed one of the display No.4s I'd brought and managed to salvage a last place (from second the year before) finish. To their credit, everyone attending was putting on a clinic about how well their pet rifles can shoot and I'd have had a tough go of it, anyway.

After a big helping of humble pie, the rifle's fixed and the Mk.1/2 I used as a backup showed a lot of promise with maybe just a little bit of tinkering. :D

At least you salvaged something Brad. :D

Why don't you post a picture of the rifle and a 2.5moa target.

Woftam, Here's an insurance pic of the rifle (top) and it's sister RN parade rifle (and the usual backup rifle). Both are '43 Maltbys with furniture replaced by the Navy armourers to match the newer Fazakerleys in the early '50s.

I've never saved my targets, never saw a reason to...should I?

Mate,

Nice rifles. The targets and saving ? Your call, but if I shoot something worth bragging about then I keep a picture of it.

Graeme, After reading about much tighter groups by other shooters, I didn't think a 2.5 was, outside of a personal best, worth mentioning. If I can do it again I'll post a target pic. :D

Thanks for the compliment on the rifles. It took several fishing trips to different forums over a long period of time to finally learn their history!
