Milsurp After Hours

I was at York Guns yesterday and talking to Gary he told me that they have a few Long Branch No.4s in stock that he said were in mint condition. I didn't get to look at one as they were in the warehouse and not to hand. I suspect these will be part of the batch from the Italian navy but he wouldn't say. I am tempted to get one as these will be the 1* variant. I have a Mk1 amd Mk2 but not a Mk1*. He also said that they had a few M1917 .30-06 rifles also that were in excellent condition.

He said that 7.62mm Nato surplus is now getting hard to find. The RG stuff is drying up. Perhaps it is going to Aghanistan or Iraq? Anyone else heard this about 7.62 Nato?

Yes it is true 7.62 NATO is getting thin on the ground could be because of Iraq I suppose.

I don't go to York guns anymore they seem to have gone up market the last couple of times Iv been there wasn't a milsurp to be seen and they didn't have anything I was after.

I go to Kranks instead.

York Guns have changed their emphasis in recent years. In the old days in the shop in the centre of York, the business was mainly milsurps and pistols. The business is now focused on shotguns, sporting rifles and clothing. They spent £500,000 on the new shop. They are not going to put a £200 milsurp on a rack that is going to take up the space that could be used for a £1000 shotgun. Money talks and shotguns is where the money is. They do get milsurps when they can, but don't put them on the shop racks. They used to have a corner where they had a rack of milsurps but that didm't last long before they replaced it with a rack of expensive clothing. They don't list milsurps or any cheap guns they have on their website, why I don't know.

Its obvious what they have done I don't blame them they are in business to make money and they have took the risk and as you say invested a lot of money.

But it is sad they have lost a lot of old customers along the way I am one of them.

I loved the old shop in the heart of the City but they have moved on they obviously know were there bread and butter is more profit in a 2000 pound shot gun than a 200 pound milsurp.

I am in favor of nice Longbranch rifles, even if it means trafficking with the Enemy.

Whoever the Enemy might be.

If you are in the market for a Enfield or any other milsurp these are the guys you should be talking to there stuff is first class and they are nice to people to do business with.

Peter, I've gotta recommend at least looking at the Long Branchs. If you can find one in dark N. American walnut, it's a neat contrast to a usually blond Mk.2. Besides that, they usually shoot as well as a Maltby. (Oops, prejudice leak. )
