I have two antique M39's, one complete and one action... both rebult by Sako. The complete 1895 Tula is in excellent condition, but I screwed up the war time stock by cleaning it with speedy-dri. I had it baking in my car for a month. I cleaned off most of the 'gray residue' and coated the stock with Formsby's tung oil finish, but it is still sticky after 10 hours of drying. This is the first time I've applied any finish to a stock, but I did a Mauser stock at the same time and it is dry.
The 1896 Sest'rky action is 40% blue with a VG+ bore that I want to use as a shooter. Can I buy an excellent war time stock for the Tula, and use the not as good stock on the S'tky?
Or would that replacement detract from the collability of the excellent 1944 Sako mil surp?
What can I do with my M39 and it's problem stock?
Thanx for all your help;
Dante'
long live a bit of a sticky wicket Buryl;)
