ORDERED AND PAID FOR!

Post by DuncaninFrance » Tue Jun 12, 2007 11:43 am

I just sent off an order and cheque for a K98k in 8x60s.

The gunshop says that it will select one in best condition from it's stock. They are German and made between 1935 and 1943 and the cost, including delivery was 315€ / £213.

Got to sit on my hands for a while now!! http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f392/ ... raying.gif[/pic]

Rechambered Mauser

Post by PeterN2 » Tue Jun 12, 2007 4:23 pm

Two or three years ago, a local gunshop had a few K98 Mausers that were rechambered in 7.62 Nato for the Norwegian forces. I understand that most were rechambered to .30-06 and had a notch cut in the receiver to accept the longer round as the one I looked at had. I dithered over it and didn't buy it and when I went back they had sold out. One of those in .30-06 may be a good buy in France or is .30-06 still a military calibre in France?

Regards

Peter.

30-06 is military

Post by DuncaninFrance » Tue Jun 12, 2007 4:55 pm

It's military - 30-06 Springfield - nuff said! This is a difficult place to get any sense regarding calibers.

Ref getting a Cat1 permit - Once you are being monitored by the law they could start to require all sorts of things like alarms, maximum ammo possession and the like.

The difference between 8x57 & 8x60 is minimal but that 3mm makes life SO much simpler - and the load data should stay the same I think.

Century had some K98's that were rechambered in 7.62 Nato a few years back. They came into the US as surplus from Israel. Didn't buy one at the time. Seems like they were something like $150 or so.

Not arrived yet!

But I got my money back from Frankonia without any problem - most un-French!

I am toying with the idea of casting my own for this piece - anyone got any thoughts?
