First of all I don’t know much anything about mausers so I’m sorry about the stupid questions
Okay, I was at a gun show and this mauser caught my eye. More precisely it was the Bayonet lug arrangement that grasped my attention. (More about that later) It caused me to stop and look instead of just blowing by after a first glance. It turned out to be a Peruvian model 1909. I liked how sleek it looked and also the shiny receiver with the crest on it. I thought that it must have been a parade rifle b/c of the shiny parts. I was wrong…. Eh. Then I saw the rear sight and I was in love. The owner told me I could handle the rifle and I happily did. The rollercoaster rear sight captivated me. It was so smooth and solid at the same time.
Then I thanked the owner, put it back on the rack and moved on thinking that I’d never see that beauty again.
I see the 1909 again. Not just in my dreams but at the very next show! And I look it over again. And I leave it again.
To shorten the story I’ll just say that after the fifth show it came home with me.

I understand that the second lug is sort of an adapter…. for a different bayonet. Right? Are these adapters supposed to come off? What’s a good bayonet for the rifle if the adapter is as permanent as it seems?
And what's that hook for?
Also, What is the metal disk on the right butt for?
