Milsurp After Hours

I recently purchased, at a very good price, a Mosin Nagant 91/30. Date on the reciever is 1941, serial numbers match on the reciever, mag.floorplate and bolt.

The problem I am having is that there are no other marks on the reciever! I have no idea who made it! The rifle is in as issued condition, tight chamber, bright bore, exellent crown. The bluing is perfect and the stock has a few handeling marks. I just don't know where it was made!

Any suggestions? Pics will be posted this evening.

Looks like a 1941 Izhevsk to me (arrow in triangle).

The wood looks great from where I'm standing.

Nice find oneshooter.

Now take it to the range and find out if you have yourself a shooter.

The rifle looks like it has never been issued! Haven's shot it yet as I have no ammo. HOWEVER, I just won an auction for a sealed case (440rds). Could anybody tell me what I just bought, and is it worth the price I paid($79, including shipping).

Can't tell what you bought from the writing on the can but the spam can ammo seems to be drying up as not as many of the usual sources have any. AIM advertises 440 round copper washed rounds at $69.95 plus shipping...and their ammo shipping charges are high, so you got at least as good a deal as theirs for the price.

Thing about spam can ammo is that it can be good or bad from one batch to the next and from one source country to another. Sometimes the lacquer coated stuff sticks but shoots good and, maybe with a lot of heavy duty cleaning of the rifle chamber, is good. Then my last batch was copper washed and had irregular rim thickness in about a quarter of the rounds, which means they wouldn't load in guns with actually the best headspace.

Cheap ammo for chunking rounds down range is fine with me and I'll roll the dice on any of it....but you will have to shoot some of it to decide if you think it was a good deal or not.

Oh, another thing.. getting the can open is not as easy as opening a can of soup...LOL. Your wife's electric can opener is not likely to do the trick. And if you get one of those issue ammo can openers with it , they are not real handy either.
