Milsurp After Hours

Had some range time Saturday morning and took my Tokarev SVT 40 to the 100 meter range to test some different loads.

I had 2 types of bullets both made by Hornady and tested each bullet with 3 different loads.

1) 150 gn cal .312 spire point with 45, 46 and 47 gn VihtaVuori N140

2) 174 gn cal .312 Round Nose with 44,45 and 46 gn VihtaVuori N140

I started with the heavier RN bullet and found out that the 45 gn load performed best.

The 150 Spire Point also liked the 45 gn load best.

I was a bit surprised that the lighter bullet performed best.

Maybe it’s just that the SVT doesn’t like the RN bullet.

I’ll try a heavier spitzer bullet next time and maybe one in cal .311.

The cases came out real dirty, but that was no surprise.

It seems that the SVT uses the gas behind the bullet not only to reload the rifle, but also to eject the empty case.

The chamber has grooves so the gas pushes against the neck of the case and helps it to eject.

I lost a lot of cases when I used commercial ammo.

They hit the rifle when they are ejected and most of the time the neck of the case is ruined beyond repair.

Take a look at the case at the top.

That's all the damage I had with my reloaded ammo Saturday.

Results could be better but…….this rifle just plain fun to shoot and with the right bullet and load I will get her to shoot real good.

Methinks there's a clash of language here:

Try this:

Case S&B

Powder N140, 47grn

Bullet S&B 150grn SP .311" at 72,5mm OAL

Real important is gas port setting, try as low as possible.

This load shoots under 50mm at 100m´, when I sigle load, from mag is is more like 80mm.

I´ll try to get some .311 150gn bullets from someone at the gun club so I can try them.

This rifle is a real pleasure to shoot.

I was surprised to find out that it was this accurate.

I still don´t know when we drive over to Kassel.
