Milsurp After Hours

Here are the three No4 rifles I found in Oklahoma.

Top to bottom they are: FAZ Mk1/2 with double star mark, BSA on BSA FTR and 1942 FAZ with South African Property Marks.

Skennerton went a little wonky when he saw the wood mark---got out the very large Canon and shot several frames.

Any Englander who has a clue/clew as to the meaning of this mark is encouraged to chime right in.

Front runner is Thunderbox's "Weedon Depot Mark", second place goes to "Wimbledon Line Judges Weapon", while "White Star Line Lifeboat Male Eliminator" has been scratched.

"U-M" mark on the cocking piece---also on the receiver ring, along with "U^" mark, but that photo was out of focus:

Ten minutes after I got home from the Tulsa Arms Show, the UPS man brought this from Maine:

Marked for New Zealand and it sports a double serial number. The bolt matches the "16L", not the "14L' below and all parts are Canadian, so I don't know if it went through the line at Longbranch twice, or what:

The "N^Z" mark is not on the bolt or magazine, so there was apparently a slight lack of zeal in New Zealand the day this was marked.

Like the Faz but is that a C prefix ? I've got a 4/42 Faz with a D prefix so I'm thinking it has got to be something else, a G perhaps ?

Also they stuck the A suffix below the number on mine.

Discounting parts-guns and donors, I have 44 No4 rifles. There is so much undiscovered material in the No4 series, I expect the total will get considerably higher.

You are correct, the letter prefix on the Fazakerley is "G"----it's much easier to see on the bolt handle.

i was inclined toward the wheedon repair mark for the star/wood stamping , but , the letter marking codes were single letter and neither "M" or "C" were used so it wasnt two trips thru eather ,

i could stand to learn something tho so explain me

Lordy, those are some nice ones.

If I had the time and extra funds- both commodities I find to be relatively finite right now- I would go big time after No.4s.

I know I have picked up a couple that were gems for what I considered paltry sums. Maybe the American stuff just jaded me on prices, I dunno...
