What are the requirements for non-toxic shot (steel,bismuth,sintered iron/tungsten) in your country/state and have you noticed any affects pro or con to its use?

Strangely we are required to shoot waterfowl with non toxic regardless of where they are but there seems to be no ruling for other game over wetlands.

I read that DEFRA were going to do random checks this year to ensure that shooters were using non-toxic shot over wetlands. However, they had to pay a big fine to the EU for not paying the farmers subsidy on time so dropped it as they had no cash to fund it.

Serves the feckers right. Despite the fact that Bismuth is damned expensive and steel is slated most individuals and small shoots insist on non toxic, my sunday night duck syndicate does and counts the cases for a draw to ensure they are non toxic and also to add some fun to it.

In my county we can fowl on a sunday.

The way things are going it will be cheaper to shoot steelshot as the cost of lead has risen so much recently with price rises almost monthly . Last month it cost £120 per thou last night it cost £146 per thou and that was for trap shells heavy game cartridges are a lot more £ 320 for number 1 shot per thou . has the prices gone up the other side of the pond as well ????

I have been reading posts by US shooters about the cost of cartridges going up alot. An example was a price of $16 going up to $23 in one jump for 100 shells (can't remember what type). They are going up everywhere but I bet the US is still cheaper then the UK.

Yup,big increases here.30-50% at a guestimate on what I stock at the store.

Some distributors are fudging by raising certain loads a lot and holding down the prices on some.Spreading the pain a little.

Shot went from about $15.00 a bag to $45.00 or so.

Trade rags say that metallic cartridge prices are up due mostly to Chinese buying up copper on world market and less to war demands.
