Been cleaning out a forgotten corner of the house.
Found this item under a lot of dust.

It's a water sterilisation set that was used in the Royal Dutch Army a long time ago.
I used to carry around this little metal box in my gear a long time ago.
Thank God we always had clean water.
I don't know what would have happened if I had to use the Thio tablets in combination with the Chloride tablets.
Just thought it was nice to post.
Met vriendelijke groet,
Martin

I don't remember anybody having any kit like this in Vietnam in the delta. What happened when we were short on water in the field a resupply chopper would bring some out in big plastic jugs. The water inside was treated......at least that's what we were told.... but often was brown or yellow as seen through the sides of the container. The up side was after we filled our canteens we didn't have to look at the color before we drank it.

I still have some Puritabs in the car - just in case but with all the wine around here I doubt I will ever use them!
Normally I have an insatiable thirst but if I can't find something to drink I just carry on - no problem. Makes me wonder if I REALLY am thirsty or not!
I got to thinking about it and I seem to remember that I used to have at least half of my water bottle left on a Sunday night when I got back to Huddersfield after filling it before I left on a Friday night! (Weekend training)
