Milsurp After Hours

Been to the former DDR last weekend and bought myself another Mosin Nagant.

It is a Finnish M24 with a stepped barrel build on 1895 Tula receiver.

Took it apart because it needs cleaning.

The barrel is manufactured by Böhler-Stahl.

I don’t have all the info on this rifle, so I will get back with you this when I have the details.

Any info you have is most welcome.

The rifle has no #number and no date.

On top of the barrel there is the marking of the “Suojeluskunta”, the Finnish civil guard.

I found lots of different stamps and markings on the rifle.

Time to open a few books and look up the details.

I took the rifle apart and found out that it was filled with old grease and cosmoline.

The wood has seen better days too.

Got a lot of cleaning to do, but I think I bought myself a beautiful rifle with an even more beautiful history.

I'm very happy with this one.

I'll just clean her up a bit and will keep the rest as it is.

It's a rifle with a history attached to it and I intend to keep it that way.

No number on the barrel is normal, S number often was only stamped on the action or the bolt or the stock.

Your rifle was refurbed later, the front sight was changed to the more target-like style found on later M91 and M91/30.

Too bad, you can not shoot it, M24 are real good shooters, when the barel is OK.

My first M24 has a sewerpipe barrel, but does clover leaves on 50m.

You are right.

The S number can be found on the receiver and the bolt.

I did shoot this rifle though.

Before I said yes to the seller I shot it on a 100 meter range.

It took me 6 rounds to get her on target.

Used a few rounds of these.

BTW, any idea what "sSe" means on the ammo package(just behind 7,62x54R)

I think, the sSe is the lable of the Dealer, Sabine Schneider.

I got plenty of ammo from her, even the ultra rare Lapua Match ammo with D47 bullet.

Finding a M24 frontsight is not the problem, but there are rifles under them

So at least you have shot the M24, when you were here
