Pressed writing on rifle

Hello,
I have a type 38 long rifle with some interesting markings on it. On the front of the reciever I have the training or school marking and also the added zeros on the serial number. But what is odd to me is the pressed in japanese writing on the lower handguard . Also it has 88 pressed into the right rear of the stock and a white painted 88 on the cheekpiece side. Could someone help deciefer this?
