Milsurp After Hours

Took some Finns & SMLE's to the range today.

First days off for me since the Fourth Of July holiday.

Here are the SMLE's;

The No4 Mk2 is a POF refurb that I installed a Parker Hale target sight in place of the regular sight. This one has a new five groove barrel with 11' target crown. It is mirror bright. Receiver, bolt, forestock with Ishy screw & magazine match. Other parts are mixed.

The No1 mk3 is dated 1944 from India, yet exhibits WW1 features of a teenage BSA with button cocking knob, volley sights, & magazine cutoff.

All numbers match with the exception of the replacement magazine & windage-adjustable rear sight.

I was feeding both rifles 1960 dated South African .303 that I hoped would group better than the 1952 Kynoch that I have.

I did not post the results of the No1. It scattered the rounds about like a drunkard. The rifling is shiny, but well worn & going away. I have a better barrel for it. Perhaps a change is due.

I shot to 100yds, adjusting the rear sight along the way, then reached out to 200 yds, all the while having to aim about a foot below the target to print. It still shoots high @ 200yds!

I'm interested. Glad a few of us still post them.

Surprised in a way to see that the Indian 1944 dated Mk 3 didn't have the cutoff removed in FTR, particularly.

Niner, you can get to shoot any of my rifles.

I shoot in Biloxi. All you need to do is name a day to set aside for shooting.

I am allowed up to two guests. Range is open everyday as long as there is daylight..

Sounds like an invitation that I can't turn down.
