I have a 1942 Lithgow SMLE that has 2 "cracks" or "scratches" for lack of better words in side the barrel. One is about 3" from the muzzle, the other about 6" from the muzzle. I just recently discovered the marks and am wondering what they are. They go all the way around the bore like a doughnut thru both the lands and grooves. The lines seem perfectly straight circles. I havent dissasembled the rifle to check the external part of the barrel. I had refinished it a few months back and hade not noticed anything then and im not sure how long the marks have been there. The marks can be slightly felt with a thick patch on the cleaning rod but just barely. The rifle shot very well the last time i shot it before i discovered the marks. Around 1 1/2" groups with my handloads. Otherwise the bore is great no wear, bright and shiney.
might these be something from manufactuering?
any info anyone has would be appreciated. Thanks all!
