My Enfield came with a spike bayonet. However will other Enfield bayonets (knife blade type) also work on all Enfields???????

While we wait for our UK and Empire brothers in arms to respond, I will state that the No 1 Mark IIIs and related Marks take the sword bayonet in its various patterns, the No. 4 Mark I /Mark II take the spike bayonet-which also fit on the WWII Brtish Army entrenching tool-and the No. 5 Mark I -Jungle Carbine-had its bayonet, a knife type. They do not interchange.

First off, the Enfield (No 3)will only take a blade bayonet while the various Lee-Enfields (No 1 and No 4) will take a variety of them. The two types of rifles are not the same. The Lee-Enfield No 1 rifles normally take a blade type, similar to but not the same as the blade type used on the Enfield No 3 rifle. The last version of the Lee-Enfield No 1, the No 1 Mark VI, was the first to use what later called a spike bayonet. These are normally used on the Lee-Enfield No 4 rifles. There are at least two different types of spike bayonet for these, the cruciform and the round blades. There are also blade bayonets for the No 4s and a type that looks like a belt knife but the handle adapts for attachment to the barrel of the No 4s. The Lee-Enfield No 5 also uses a blade type bayonet but it is not the same as the No 1 or No 3. Is that confusing enough? It gets worse if you consider the early Lee-Enfield long rifles, Lee-Metfords, and those made or re-made in various countries, such as India or Turkey.
