Autumn League - The winner is
Well its not that simple really, in fact as soon as I started this competition I knew it was doomed.
Still we had 6 competitors with 7 entires, however only 4 of those entries (three competitors) completed the course of fire.
Therefore I have decided just to aggregate the scores submitted, just so we can have a competition of sorts.
On that basis the scores are as follows.
Graeme Enfield No8 Group Size: 1.58"
Joe Enfield No8 Group Size: 3.2"
Joe Enfield Martini .303" Group Size: 3.88"
Duncan Mauser K98 8x60s Group Size: 3.99"
Robert 9r .577" ML & 91 Nagant Group Size: 5.37"
Dave No 4 .303" Group Size: 5.73"
Robert BI No 5 .303" Group size: 8.75"
Upon reflection The No 8s should be in a a competition of their own as they are target rifles, they are the only Enfield trainer that was designed as such from the ground up.
However this still wouldn't change the prize winners any so overall the winner is:
Graeme - 1.58"
Second Place is:
Joe - 3.2"
Third place is also Joe however as his score is so close to Duncans 1/10th of an inch over 12 groups shot I'm calling this third equal. So third place winners are:
Duncan and Joe - 3.99" and 3.88" respectively.
Congratulations and well done to all the shooters for having a go.
Interestingly all the rifles delivered average military group sizes of 4-6" this is not bad considering the varying nature/condition of each rifle. The No 5 had a larger group but that is also to be expected as it has a far shorter sight radius/barrel length than the other issue firearms and is harder to shoot accurately.
So these old warhorses still deliver, with careful hand loading and consistent shooting technique .a 2" group norm is very possible.
Yes there are prizes. You'll find out what they are when you get them so I'll need your postal addresses emailing to me. I'm having a little bit of vagueness from the supplier but you should have them by Hogmanay if not Christmas

Thanks for all your efforts Adam and congratulations to Graeme who is obviously living proof that it IS the weapon and not the shooter
It is interesting to see that the old warhorses can still perform

You're faith in my ability is touching Duncan
I do take your point Adam that the No8's are not exactly standard milsurp. My excuse is I only had a rimfire range available.
We should do this again sometime, like once I've developed a few handloads for the H barrel BSA.
I'll PM you my address Adam.

Thanks for the contest Adam
I'm really surprised with all the milsurp shooters we have here that so few of them take the time to enter the contests. Particularly the ones that go to the trouble of taking photos and posting some target they have shot during the course of the contest but never bothering to participate in even a by the way fashion. Amazing to me. Maybe some people don't like contests. However, it's all about taking part and not so much about who wins.
I feel a special appreciation to all who participated in Dromia's contest and in so doing showing their interest in the site.
Oh......I almost forgot....Good going Graeme , Joe and Duncan for managing the best scores.

Yes but the question is from WHAT to WHAT Robblackisler wrote:Thanks for setting up the comp Adam and congrats to the winners. I will be trying to develope a decent load for the no5 over the next few months and hope to reduce the group size.
