Hello,

A member of our german forum asked me for some help on a No4 sniper, he bought.
The rifle itself is from 1945( M47C 1945 X33589) production, looks so far all original, but the No.55MkI scope seems not original to the rifle, wrom mount.

I am not an expert on snipers, but I was told, there was a special mount for the No.55, as teh scope itself has no adjustment for windage and elevation.

Can anyone bring some light here?

Chris

Laidler mentions a trial in his book in Sep '44 of No42 and No53 scopes on the No4T. He only mentions two brackets being built. Apparently it was done as an attempt at weight saving. Even with elevation and windage mechanisms built into the scope bracket there was a weight saving over the No32 and bracket. However it was just over 1 ounce so wasn't continued with.
There may have been other attempts but that is the only one I'm aware of.
