DF 7x40 Binoculars

Things a soldier would carry other than firearms, ammo, or uniforms. Meaning equipment such as ammo pouches, bayonets, holsters, oil cans, cleaning equipment, etc.

DF 7x40 Binoculars

Post by mozark » Wed Jun 29, 2005 7:14 pm

I don't know what they accoutrement, but has anyone else discovered the surplus East German DF 7x40 binoculars? Also called "Checkpoint Charlie" binoculars. They were made by Zeiss-Jena in the 70's. Zeiss-Jena was the half of Zeiss that wound up in the Bloc, so these are Zeiss quality. Some think they're the finest binoculars Zeiss-Jena ever made. I don't know about that, but I got a pair and they're the most amazing binoculars I've ever peered through. 7x40 so a bit wide angled and good dusk and dawn glasses. Crystal clear optics. Individual focus, with 22mm of eye relief and terrific accordion eye cups, so for an eyeglass wearer they are unparalleled. For someone wearing glasses its like being a regular unhandicapped person. Can you tell I like them? Available from $250 to $400. I paid $400 for mine from Deutsche Optik, refurbished. They run them through their lab. Clean the prisims and replace the armor.
