Back from Luxemburg

Hello all.
Just returned from a 3 week vacation with the family in Luxemburg
We liked this country so much, that we decided to go over there again this year.
It’s impossible to post all the pictures we took, so I made a small selection.
First some pictures from the capitol of Luxemburg, Luxemburg city.
We didn’t visit the new, modern part of the city, but decided to go and see one of the oldest parts of the city, called “Grund” and some parts of the city center.
Next to that some pictures we took while driving to a lake where we could take a swim.
First however…..Luxemburg city.
Enjoy.
Luxemburg city….the old and the new.
Wherever you look, you keep seeing the old and the new together.
This monument is called “the Golden Lady”.
It’s a monument to the Luxemburgers who died in WW I.
It was destroyed by the Germans in 1940 to break the Luxemburg resistance.
They achieved the opposite though.
It was rebuild in 1984 and today it represents the resilience and freedom of the Luxemburg people.
From here you also have fantastic panoramic views.
We went to one of the bridges and walked down to one of the oldest parts of Luxemburg city, called “Grund”.
Just take a look at these pictures.
It used to be a place where many craftsmen lived.
Some of them used the water of the Alzette river for their work.
It is now a place where many artists live.
Luxemburg is a very small country (998.6 sq miles and a population of 493.500)and has a very rich history.
They want to remember most of their history and you can find ,for example, well maintained WW II monuments on various places throughout the country.
Like this one one that I found right next to a bus station in the city of Echternach on the German border.
It’s not only the Dutch that never forget.
Finally some pictures we took while driving to a lake where we took a swim.
It’s not exactly “Hoover Dam”, but it just shows that a small country can achieve great things.
Oooops…..almost forgot.
We visited Luxemburgs most famous square in the center of the city called “Place D’armes” or in good English “Weapons Square” and I enjoyed one of Luxemburgs finest products…….
