I have in my possesion a Swedish mauser I have completely stripped it to clean and and inspect it.
The wood work isnt the best Iv seen but its intact its mainly cosmetic so no worries its fine underneath.
Underneath the wood the barrel and action just wanted a good clean.
The bore was a bit dark I spent half a day scrubbing it its OK. Need to shoot it now to see how she performs.
A question the gun is all matching numbers except for the barrel its either been re barreled or when it was built it was fitted with a barrel with the different number.
The woodwork and all the action and bolt are numbered 423013
The barrel is numbered 428018 these numbers are very close to gether if the barrel had been replaced wouldnt these numbers be a lot different.

Its either your eyesight (lack of), serendipity or coincidence depending on your point of view.

Could also be someone has flogged you a dog. :D

Serendipity is the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something entirely unrelated.

423013
428018

I would check the 3 & 8 stamps a bit more carefully Dave, it can't be that co-incidental surely.

Joe ;)

Well if I were Shylok Homes i'd say it was an EYESIGHT problem but .................. :loco: :loco: :loco:

Serious question though, at what stage would a weapon have it's serial number added? Would it be after inspection and testing or before. Logic says it should be at build completion before proof etc so it can be referenced on paperwork but I don't know for certain

I think it is probably matching on re examining it but I am still a bit puzzled I think its maybe the way its been stamped.
The plus side is the mojo sight went on without a hitch. ah ah. :D
Number on the barrel
Number on the barrel

Having had another look Im now confident she is all matching.
(Two pairs of glasses a magnifying glasses and a very bright light).
Iv stripped her naked down to the last roll pin brushed her scrubed her polished her rubbed her and now she is back together again. She didnt want to have any thing to do with the mojo sight and it took a bit of persuasion to get it pinned in but no damage done and she finally gave up. Just need to shoot it now . Fingers crossed she does the buisness if she delivers the goods on the range this Saturday I will be a happy bunny.
Now Im off over to the reloading forum to knock up some ammo for her see yeah later.

Its a nice looking rifle Dave, how about posting a few pics of her.

However, could you drape a bit of cleaning cloth over the abomination you call a rear sight please!

Joe ;)

You've got yourself a Tack driver there Dave.

The only improvement you need to make now is to get your eyes fettled to make the most of the rifles superb accuracy potential. :D
