Pattern 1888 MkI

2nd Type, Pattern 1888 MkI Sword bayonet. Approved for service 25th February 1890, it differed from the 1st Type (approved 20 June 1889) by having two brass rivets securing the wooden grips rather than three rivets and washers. Scabbards remained unaltered.

Although the application of 1st and 2nd Types nomenclature is used in most studies on these bayonets there was no such official recognition.
