Milsurp After Hours

Saw a Lee-Enfield in a local gun shop yesterday. The guy at the shop knew less about Enfields then I do (which is almost nothing), but the gun was in nice condition and the price seemed fair ($225). Please help identify. I'm assuming it's a #4 something.... Here are the markings I found.

On one side of the band behind the receiver were three lines.

the first was stamped what looked like : M1 (and something I couldn't read)
the second line was marked : 1945
And the third line was stamped : U32132

On the reverse I found : England

On the front of the bolt was the letter M with an arrow over it.

There were a few proof or arsenal marks, but I couldn't make them out.

There were no stampings on the wood.

What do you guys think?

aprayinbear, It's a No.4 Mk.1 manufactured by BSA-Shirley per the S/N. It's a plus if the S/N on the bolt matches the rifle.

PS The stamp you had trouble reading is M47

The date, number and prefix would be correct for a No4 Mk1 rifle manufactured by BSA. The "M1" is most likely a mis-stamp of "M47C", the BSA factory code.

The "England" is a 1960s US import stamp apllied before the rifle was shipped out of UK - probably by Interarms.

The "M with an arrow over it" probably means that the bolt head was manufactured by Maltby, one of the other wartime factories. Originally, the entire rifle would have had BSA parts. Your rifle should have a matching "U32132" on the back of the bolt handle. If not, then the bolt is a later replacement.
