I know that strictly speaking this isn't a Lee Enfield question, but..
Anyone able to decode this marking on the receiver ring of this P-14 rifle?
Thanks

Other than it is circular with something in the centre I can't make too much of it from that photo. Do you have (or can you get) a closeup ?
There are a couple of markings that are letters surrounded by circles associated with Lee Enfields.
C - associated with Canada and usually referring to 7.62mm barrels - therefore unlikely
D - stands for draw lapped barrel - a possibility
W - usually with an asterix above, refers to cord worn barrels - possible but unlikely on the photo provided.

I'll just try something here:
Didn't work.

Might be just a tad clearer this time.

Unfortunately. this is a picture from an auction and the only one that shows the mark in question.
Thanks anyway

I won that auction for that rifle last night. I'm waiting for it to be shipped in now. When it comes in, I'll be sure to upload better pictures.
The seller claims its a Winchester 1914 that has been through refurb to remove the volley sights and I believe that mark is the circle star to signify the improved bolt.

LOL--I was bidding against you. Glad a collector got it.

If you had gone 25 dollars more it might have been yours. (I've done the same thing on an auction before where I stopped bidding when I reached my internal cut line)
I got pulled away from the auction to handle a crying kid and figured it would go past my max bid and came back to find I had won.
I'm sure you'll get one. I was surprised to see several P14s on Gunbroker in the last few months. There's a couple in 300 Win Mag right now out there.

I have two (I don't want to seem a glutton), an Eddystone and a Winchester, but that price just seemed to good to pass up.
I would really like to get a Remington to complete the collection.

Here's a Remington M1917
Not a 303 Brit but a Remmie.
