A Military Funeral . . .

Yesterday I had the honour of being able to pay my respects to one of our latest casualties in Afghanistan. Sapper Darren Smith was buried with full military honours from the chapel at Ashgrove Marist College in Brisbane.
My wife and I had attended the Year 11 Dinner at the college on Friday evening, so next day we stood with the schoolboy Guard of Honour as the gun carriage bearing his coffin and the funeral procession passed through the college grounds. A very moving moment especially when his wife passed carrying their young son. This old soldier was a bit shook up, I don't mind admitting.
