Milsurp After Hours

Okay after no Enfields since last April here goes. P-14 Remington Serial# 85498 all matching with the * upgrade and Excellent finnish and wood (cosmo soaked though). It is missing the piling swivel and volley sight on the front of the stock, any idea where I can get these parts? The stock disk is marked RAF 99 MP any ideas there? What sling would be correct and what year was it made? I payed $250 is that a decent price. This is the first P-14 that I've seen in person how did I do? Any thoughts info or advice is welcome. regular web sling would be correct , the volleys are tough but watch e-bay and ask around , the piling swivel should be findable at the usual - its the same as the m17 i think , could cut a sling swivel ? im not sure on the remington dates for p14s but i think some of the knowledgable folks can get you close , nice find , great price

Sounds like a nice P 14 or No 3 rifle you got there and at UK prices you got a bargain sorry I have no US reference point to help you.





Firstly is there a asterix/star over a letter on the underside of the but behind the pistol grip.





Secondly on the volley sights is the dial plate missing or is the range pointer/foresight just removed, is the rear volley aperture peep sight in place.





Just trying to establish if its a Wheedon repair job.





Although from your description it doesn't sound it as the stock discs were usually removed and the holes filled, but then nothing is for certain with Enfields.





No3 and P17 piling swivels were considered interchangable.





Don't know much about the serial numbers but Remington made around 400,000 rifles between 1916-17, therefore assuming consecutive numbers from 1 upwards then this would seem a relatively early one, the first Remington and Eddystone No 3 rifles arrived in Europe end May 1916.





The No 3 MK 1* variant going into production in June 1916, if the * is stamped on the receiver ring as well as the bolt and barrel then this indicate it was originally made pre June 1916 as Mk 1 and upgraded later.





What do the but markings say? any chance of some pictures?





Bloody stock disc questions do my head in, I've lists and lists of stock disc abbreviations but none of them have ever appeared in a stock disc question, bugger.





Don't know, RAF could be Royal Air Force, MP Military Police who knows I don't.





Yep web sling is OK with this that what I have on mine.

Thanks to the welcomeing guys I plan on dropping in here from time to time. I am a regular on Parallax Bill's forum, I am the Lee Enfield Forum Host there I posted the same on my forum, but only recieved two replies, one helpfull one that was just odd. Back to the rifle at hand.





Yes there is a star and a 1 stamped on the grip.





on the barrel shank I found the serial number repeated, an R on the top (remington), lots of proof marks a J with 15 under it, y210, and what looks like 17 under that.





I will post pics when I can, but the marks on the reciever and barrel are faint and are difficult to read in some parts.





on the top of the reciever under the RE in an oval there is a star same with on the bolt.





Most of the parts are stamped with a R some are stamped with an E. The trigger guard is stamped with a 15.

Gunparts had piling swivels, I brought one a little while ago for my Winchester P-14.





The E marked parts are form the Eddystone plant, I am also looking out for a rear volley sight<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :o --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=":o">; as mine is missing, it has the front set up but not the rear.

i picked up an original rear volley sight and repro front volley sight arm for my M17. worth a try.

"Enfield-Stuff", a web site I found, has "Eddystone" volley sight parts available; no "Remington" or "Winchester" parts as they are "sold out". Site provides some information about volley sights/utilization and some photos for reference. ed
